Why I left Christianity

I was brought up as a Christian, but as I became more enlightened, I increasingly saw that Christianity includes many obviously made-up elements designed to cater to a white, Western, middle- to upper-class audience that did not want to think too hard about theological issues.  I could, of course, no longer accept such a religion, and today I am proud to identify as a Wiccan.

A man who made the mistake of thinking that I care what men think told me in another forum that my previous post contained something that he called the "no true Scotsman" fallacy.  If the people who came up with such nonsense cannot find a less sexist name than "no true Scotsman," why should I care about it?  Besides, people who accuse of others of using logical fallacies are just indulging in the sort of linear, syllogistic, Eurocentric thought processes that more enlightened people have rejected.

What's wrong with BDSM

As a vanilla dyke, I understand that BDSM is objectively immoral, as it is all about the subjugation of women.  Even in the cases of femdom and gay male BDSM, the forms used are the same as those for the subjugation of women, so the link is still there.  (I am omitting any mention of lesbians because no authentic lesbians would engage in BDSM.)

Also, it is specious to argue that the submissive in any way "consents" to BDSM.  Only false consciousness would lead someone to believe (mistakenly) that she is consenting.  Engaging in BDSM plainly has nothing to do with the right to make choices over one's own body.

What's wrong with dystopian novels

When I was in high school, we had to study dystopian novels such as 1984 and Brave New World.  I remember a vague sense of discomfort when I read such works.  Now I understand why.

Who writes dystopian novels?  For the most part, Western white men do.  They therefore privilege a Western, white, male view of freedom that is completely at odds with everything that I hold dear.

One exception is The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood.  That book, however, has another flaw, in that it rests on the ridiculous premise that the religious right and the radfem left could ever find common cause on any issue.
